As part of the international training offered to IE
alumni, IE Alumni Association organised the II IE International Update:
Business in the Middle-East
from 16 February 2009 to 18 February 2009 in
Dubai. It was held at Radisson Sas Deira Creek hotel with lectures from
entrepreneurs and professionals working in Dubai, as well as representatives of
official institutions.

 

The programme was attended by alumni from different
countries and Global MBA students, and included conferences about the situation
of the UAE market and the challenges facing corporate UAE, as well as company
visits to leading firms in the region.

Speakers included alumni, entrepreneurs and
executives:
Mr. Manuel Valle, Economic & Commercial Counsellor in the UAE and Qatar, Spanish
Embassy; Mr. Gonzalo Gaspar, Managing Director, VALOR Business
Consultants; Mr. Brian Cooper,
Regional Manager Middle East, Catenon Worldwide Executive Search;
Mr. Sergio Cervantes, General Manager, Atlantis Hotel Tennis Academy; Mr. Thomas Reid, Consultant, 5 Capitals
Environmental and Management Consultants;
Mr.
Miguel Silva
,
Vice-president, Blusens Technologies;
Mr. Antonio Lasaga, Human Resources Manager
Middle East & Africa Region, ABB;
Mr. Arturo Manso,
Managing Director, TEKA Middle East;
and

The participants also had the opportunity to visit two
very well-known companies in Dubai.  The first was
Jebel Ali Port Free Zone and Authority (JAFZA), the world’s largest manmade port where more
than 8,000 companies are currently located. The presentation included the
history of the port as well as the future plans, and was followed by a tour of
the port.

 

The second was
Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), where the presentation and tour was given by Mr.
Mohammed Mesmari
, Associate-Business Development, and Ms. Raida Al Zúbi,
Director of Operations and Special Projects. DIFC is the world’s fastest
growing international financial centre, focused on banking services, capital
markets, asset management, insurance, re-insurance, Islamic finance and
professional service providers.

 

Apart from the sessions and the company visits, the
attendants got a chance to visit the city and take a desert safari, arranged by
IE Alumni Association, on Sunday, February 15.

 

All in all, the IE International Update Programme
tried to provide the attendants with a picture of the challenges and
opportunities of doing business in the UAE, as well as other aspects like
cultural differences.

The participants also had the opportunity to meet
other alumni in Dubai through the IE
Alumni Dinner
organised by IE Alumni Association in collaboration with UAE
IE Alumni Club on Tuesday, February 17 as a classic Dhow Dinner cruise along
the Creek. This brought more networking opportunities to all.

will take be held from May 25, 2009 to May 28, 2009 in

Como parte del entrenamiento internacional ofrecido por los Antiguos
Alumnos del IE, la Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos del IE organizó en Dubai el
II
IE International Update: Business in the Middle-East del 16 al 18 de febrero de 2009. El curso se
impartió en el hotel
Radisson Sas Deira Creek y se llevaron a cabo
conferencias de empresarios y profesionales que están trabajando en Dubai así
como representantes oficiales de instituciones.

 

Al programa asistieron alumnos de diferentes países y alumnos del Global
MBA y hubo conferencias sobre la situación del mercado de EAU y los retos
corporativos de EAU así como visitas a compañías líderes en la región.

Los participantes también tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar dos compañías
muy conocidas en Dubai. La primera fue
Jebel Ali Port Free Zone and Authority (JAFZA), el puerto más grande del mundo construido por el hombre donde hay
localizadas más de 8000 compañías. En la presentación se incluyó la historia
del puerto así como los planes futuros y continuó con un tour por el puerto.

 

La segunda fue Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), donde la presentación y el tour fueron llevados a cabo por Mr.
Mohammed Mesmari
, Associate-Business Development, and Ms. Raida Al Zúbi,
Director of Operations and Special Projects. DIFC es al centro financiero
internacional  que más rápido está
creciendo en el mundo, enfocado en servicios bancarios, mercados de capitales, gestión
de activos asset management, seguros, reaseguros, re-insurance, financiación
islámica y suministradores de servicios profesionales.

Además de las conferencias y de las
visitas a compañías, los participantes tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar la
ciudad e ir a un safari por el desierto, organizado por la Asociación de
Antiguos Alumnos del IE
el domingo 15 de febrero.

 

En su conjunto, el  IE International Update Programme
trató de proporcionar  a los asistentes
los posibles retos y oportunidades de hacer negocios en los EAU y otros
aspectos como diferencias culturales.

 

Los participantes también tuvieron la oportunidad de reunirse con otros
alumnos en Dubai a través de la cena IE
Alumni Dinner
organizada por la Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos del IE y en
colaboración con el Club de Antiguos Alumnos del IE en EAU que tuvo lugar el 17
de febrero y fue un crucero por el Creek. Esto proporcionó más oportunidades de
networking para todo el mundo.

well there was a time when Dubai was at its peak and it earn a lot from its property business but now situation has been changed. people are leaving Dubai due to job cutting and those who are there don’t have enough money to spend. 000-974 dumps
the circle has been disturbed. hope it will be okey in the coming years. doburj has its brand name that’s why it is still earning., so these kind of project take time.
