The second Tourism Leaders Forum of the season will take place on Tuesday November 17th with an outstanding speaker: Mr. Marino Faccini, President-General Manager of Carlson Wagonlit Travel Spain and Executive Vice President of Carlson Wagonlit Travel for the Mediterranean & LATAM. He will analyze the present and future of corporate travel and its main business trends.

Content: Mr. Faccini will analyze the present and future of business travels in the world. Trends, costumer habits, customer focus, change of business models, etc. An in depth analysis made by one senior industry leaders.

Speaker’s Bio

Born in Italy (1952), he is Italian and Swiss.

He studied in Montreux Business School (Switzerland). He speaks English, French, Spanish and Italian.

He start to work at the age of 16 as department assistant in CWT Montreux and a few years later he became travel manager in the CWT implant in Nestlé. Since then, he had different responsabilities in the company (Groups Dpt. Director in Geneve(1990-1995), Operations Director in CWT Switzerland (1995-1996), General Manager CWT Switzerland (1996-1998) and Operations Vice President for Central and South Europe.

In 2000 he was appointed as Vice President and General Manager for Iberia (Spain, Portugal and Morroco) and in 2004 he became responsible for the Metirrenean Zone (Egipt, Spain, Greece, Italy, Morroco and Portugal). In addition, on January 2007 he was appointed as Executive Vice President for LATAM (Mexico, Brasil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Colombia).

El pasado 20 de octubre de 2009 tuvo lugar la inauguración del HR Alumni Club, que congregó a más de 50 antiguos alumnos interesados en el área de los RRHH.

Los alumni asistieron al HR Networking Day, un evento donde se presentó el nuevo Club y se realizaron actividades de networking para un mayor conocimiento entre sus miembros. El evento finalizó con un cocktail donde los alumni pudieron conocerse e intercambiar impresiones.

Desde el Club se realizo una pequeña encuesta para ver los intereses de los participantes en futuros eventos y en distintas temáticas.

On October 20, 2009 the inauguration of the HR Alumni Club took place, which brought together over 50 alumni interested in the HR area.

The alumni attended the HR Networking Day, an event where the new HR Alumni Club was presented and a series of networking activities were carried out in order for members to get to know each other. The event ended with a cocktail where the alumni were able to meet each other and exchange views.

Within the Club a small survey was made in order to find out what were the participants’ interests for future events and in different areas.

We want to recall the existence of the Centro de Recursos Humanos de IE, which is an initiative set to support the managers and technicians on their updating professional skills in this field. On October 27 Miguel Silva, co-founder of Blu:Sens, presented to the Entrepreneurship Club providing us with some extremely useful advice as we look forward to develop our own businesses in the near or distant future.

Blu:sens is a successful Spanish consumer electronics company from Galicia which is currently selling its products in over 100 counties around the world and successfully competing against many household names by creating a quality brand, delivering excellent customer service and creating innovative products. Blu:sens is the subject of an IE business case on the company and its transition from Galicia to the global marketplace.

Miguel gave the IE Entrepreneurship Club some valuable advice on how to become a successful entrepreneur even in these uncertain times. For Miguel, passion in a team or an idea is a critical factor.

Miguel’s advice and key take-aways:

-       Be passionate about what you are undertaking

-       Face the possibility of failure without fear

-       Close the holes in your value chain by outsourcing resources

-       Manage your cashflow (and your banks) very tightly in this uncertain period

-       When pitching to banks se passionate about your business, be professional, train for presentations, take your time, seek feedback and be persistent – this will give you a good chance of getting financing

-       Adapt your business model to the local market when internationalizing 

Miguel passionately made the case for entrepreneurs and their social responsibility – about the need to create jobs and not just to make money; the need to reinvest in the company in order to make it sustainable. For Miguel, as entrepreneurs we have a community responsibility and, above all, it is important to keep our values.

He captivated the audience with his passion for the business and for the entrepreneurial cause and all those attending enjoyed his discussion and advice.

Objetivos: La ponencia se enmarca en el “Programa de Encuentros con Embajadores de España” que desarrollamos conjuntamente con la Dirección General de Relaciones Económicas Internacionales  del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y Cooperación. Estas charlas están destinadas a dar a conocer a los alumnos, y antiguos alumnos del IE, las oportunidades de negocio  y de inversión  que se abren en algunos países, desde la perspectiva de nuestros Embajadores, conocedores de la realidad de los mismos e interlocutores preferentes con las autoridades locales.
