On July 18, took place the first 3rd Friday Business Lunch, the pioneering and innovative new
proposal launched by the Bilbao IE Alumni Club, with the aim of promoting not
only know-how, but also know-who, among its members.Este nuevo formato para
las comidas mensuales es absolutamente profesional. Consta de presentaciones
individuales, una presentación detallada hecha por un AA sobre su empresa, y encuentros
finales entre aquellos quienes pueden ser clientes finales o prescriptores para
otros compañeros.
Excelente acogida ha
tenido también la creación en LinkedIn
del primer grupo para un IE Club, el Bilbao
IE Alumni Group, que coordinadamente la AAA y el Club pusieron en
funcionamiento el pasado mes de junio.
On 19 June, IE Alumni
Association along with the IE Alumni Club at Palma de Mallorca organized
a conference titled Claves y Perspectivas de la Economía Mundial
y Española by Juan Carlos
Martínez Lázaro, professor of Economic Environment at IE Business School.
During the conference, professor Martinez Lázaro spoke about the financial crisis that the capital market have been suffering from for months and the unstoppable inflation in petroleum, food and other raw material prices, that seem to predict the end of the growth stage that the worldwide economy has been enjoying since 2004. Also, the Spanish economy is heading towards a slow growth scenario, given the rise in interest rates and a halt in construction and the real estate market. In this section, we analyzed the principle variables that are affecting the behavior of the global economy as well as tackled the risks that threaten the Spanish economy and the means by which one should confront these risks during the following months.
During the cocktail which was held after
the conference, all participants cheered up to continue supporting the club
with new initiatives and to participate in all activities.
El pasado 19 de junio, la Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos del
IE Business School reunió a sus antiguos alumnos de Palma de Mallorca en torno
a la conferencia Claves y Perspectivas de la Economía Mundial y Española, que impartió Juan Carlos Martínez Lázaro,
profesor de Entorno Económico del IE Business School.
Durante la conferencia el profesor
Martínez Lázaro, habló sobre la crisis financiera que están sufriendo los mercados de capitales
desde hace unos meses y las imparables subidas del precio del petróleo, de los
alimentos y de otras materias primas, que parecen augurar el fin de la etapa de
crecimiento del que ha venido disfrutando la economía mundial desde 2004.
También la economía española se encamina hacia un escenario de menor
crecimiento, debido a la elevación de los tipos de interés y al parón de la
construcción y del mercado inmobiliario. En esta sesión se analizaron las
principales variables que están influyendo en el comportamiento de la economía mundial
y se abordaron los riesgos que acechan a la economía española y los retos a los
que se deberá enfrentar durante los próximos meses.
Durante el cocktail que se celebró a continuación se animó a
todos los asistentes a seguir apoyando al club con nuevas iniciativas y a
participar en todas sus actividades.
On 5 June, the Zurich IE Alumni Club got the
opportunity to meet Professor Luis Solis,
Professor of the Operations Department at IE Business School and Associate Dean
for Part-Time faculty and Executive Education at Au Premier in Bahnhofplatz. At this meeting, Professor Solis gave a session titled
BEYOND ORGANIZATIONAL GENETICS. In
this session, he talked about how the intensification of global competition is
putting a level of pressure on company´s capabilities in terms of frequency of
change and levels of performance; markets increasing demands for better
customer experiences as well as the proliferation of market segments is
exceeding organizational genetic capabilities and organizations are looking for
new models and alternatives to keep its competitive and sustainable position; finding
solutions to this challenge demands among other things to question some of the
established business management paradigms. The objectives of his
presentation were: Drivers and standards for business competitive
capabilities; Globalization and the Olympic Games: A new frequency and level
for business performance; The limits of business capabilities: Organizational
Genetics; Revisiting the concept of core capabilities and its management
implications; Cases and future challenges.
After the session, the alumni got together for a
cocktail at D-Vino, where the alumni got a chance to talk to Professor Luis
Solis, increase their network and catch up with old friends from IE, all while
enjoying great in-house wine and tapas.
The session was attended by Divya Goel,
Associate Director of the Alumni Association, as well as, Franka Schaffler and Antun Ucovich, Zurich Alumni Club
Representatives.
El 5 de junio, los antiguos alumnos del
club de Zurich tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer a Luis Solís, profesor del departamento de operaciones del IE
Business School y, Associate Dean for Part-Time faculty y Executive Education
en Au Premier in Bahnhofplatz.
En este encuentro, el profesor Solís ofreció una conferencia titulada BEYOND ORGANIZATIONAL GENETICS. En esta sesión, hablo sobre como la intensidad de la competencia mundial está elevando la presión sobre las capacidades de las empresas en términos de la frecuencia en los cambios y los niveles de rendimiento; mercados incrementando la demanda por mejor experiencia de los clientes asi como la proliferación de segmentos de mercado están excediendo en la genérica capacidad organizacional y las organizaciones están mirando hacia nuevos modelos y alternativas para mantenerse competitivas. Buscando soluciones para este reto en la demanda entre otras cosas ponen en cuestión algunas de los paradigmas establecidos en la dirección de la empresa. Los objetivos de esta presentación fueron: Normas para los negocios competitivos; Globalización y los juegos olímpicos: una nueva frecuencia y nivel de rendimiento para los negocios; los límites de la capacidad de los negocios; organizaciones genéricas; Revisando el concepto del corazón de los negocios y las implicaciones de la dirección; casos y retos futuros.
Después de la sesión, los antiguos
alumnos tuvieron un cocktail donde tuvieron la oportunidad de hablar con el
profesor Luis Solís, desarrollando el networking y poniéndose al día
con viejos amigos del IE, todo ello mientras disfrutaban en ese
lugar de vino y tapas.
En la sesión estuvieron presentes Divya Goel, Directora Asociada de la Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos del IE, así como, Franka Schaffler y Antun Ucovich, representantes del club de Antiguos Alumnos en Zurich.
On 31 May, the Hong Kong IE Alumni Club
got together to have an IE ALUMNI DINNER
at the China Club, with Victoria Gimeno,
Director of IE Alumni Association and Divya
Goel, Associate Director of IE Alumni Association.In this dinner, the alumni got the
chance to meet old friends and increase their networking while enjoying a
lovely traditional Chinese Dinner. The diverse alumni groups also got to hear
each other´s opinions and perspectives on various topics, including the Hong
Kong economy, its cultural differences.
It was a great opportunity for the Hong Kong alumni to meet each other and we hope to have many more events there in the future.
El 31 de mayo, los antiguos alumnos del
IE en Hong Kong tuvieron una cena, IE
ALUMNI DINNER, con Victoria Gimeno,
Directora de la Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos IE Business School y con Divya Goel, Directora Asociada de la
Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos del IE Business School.
En la cena, los antiguos alumnos
tuvieron la oportunidad de encontrase con sus amigos y desarrollar el
networking disfrutando de una tradicional cena china. Los antiguos alumnos
pudieron intercambiar opiniones y puntos de vista sobre varios temas como, la
economía en Hong Kong, y las diferencias culturales.
Fue una gran oportunidad para los
antiguos alumnos en Hong Kong para conocerse y esperamos que se organicen más
encuentros en el futuro.
On 14 May, the Lisbon Alumni Club got the opportunity
to meet Professor Rui Vieira,
Visiting Professor in Management Control at IE Business School and Assistant
Professor in Management Control and Accounting, Universidade Nova de Lisboa,
Portugal.At this meeting, Professor Vieira gave a session
titled The Balanced Scorecard, in
which, he talked about its application as well as its advantages and
disadvantages. The alumni also got a chance to network with each other via a
cocktail served after the lecture.
The session was attended by Divya Goel, Associate Director of the Alumni Association, the
Lisbon Club President, Francisco Machado,
and Lisbon IE Office Representative, Ines
Holtremann.
After the session, the alumni also got together for
Lisbon Alumni Club's monthly Alumni Dinner to foster their strong network as
well as to welcome new people to the club.
El 14 de mayo, el Club de Antiguos Alumnos de Lisboa tuvo la oportunidad
de reunirse con Rui Vieira, Profesor
Visitante de Control de Gestión del IE Business School y Profesor Ayudante de
Control de Gestión de la Universidad Nova de Lisboa, Portugal.
En esta reunión, el profesor Vieira bajo el título de El Balanced Scorecard,
trató su aplicación, así como sus ventajas y desventajas. Los antiguos
alumnos también tuvieron la oportunidad de desarrollar su network a través del
cocktail que tuvo lugar después de la conferencia.

On May 08, the IE Alumni in London
collected at Hotel Hesperia London for a conference by Bryan Husted, Director, Alumni Association Chair of Business Ethics
and Sustainability.
The lecture was titled The Dark Side of Business and in this
conference, he talked about "the banality of evil". He explained how our
everyday actions make all the difference, and how it is not only about the top
management of big corporate firms, but each manager in the whole system.
After the session, the alumni also got a
chance to talk with Bryan and other alumni during a cocktail.
The session was attended by Victoria Gimeno, Director of the IE Alumni Association and Divya Goel, Associate Director of the IE Alumni Association.
8 de mayo de 2008, los
antiguos alumnos del IE en Londres se reunieron en el Hotel Hesperia London
para asistir a una conferencia de Bryan
Husted, Director de la Cátedra de Ética
y Sostenibilidad de la Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos del IE Business
School.
La conferencia se tituló "The Dark Side of Business" y en ella,
se habló sobre "la banalidad de malvado". El profesor explicó como
nuestras acciones diarias marcan todas las diferencias, y como esto no es así
solo en la alta dirección de las grandes compañías, sino cada directivo en todo
el sistema.
Después de la
conferencia, los antiguos alumnos tuvieron la oportunidad de hablar con Bryan y
otros antiguos alumnos durante el cocktail.

On 9th April, 2008, IE Alumni got
together at Hotel AC La Rioja in Logroño for the opening ceremony of the La
Rioja IE Alumni Club.
The session was presented by Daniel Exner, President of the La Rioja IE Alumni Club. The meeting enjoyed great success where the attendants showed great interest in the new club and in participating in its future activities.
We, at IE Alumni Association, wish them
luck in this new endeavour.

On 7th April, Marieta del Rivero, Advisor
for Nokia in Spain gave a conference to the IE Alumni Club of Bilbao.
During the conference, Marieta del
Rivero, one of the main directors of the Spanish business, presented ways of
management at Nokia, contributing on the basis of own experience, with a view
of the prevailing rules of the game in the mobile sector.
The session was presented by Jorge
García del Arco, Coordinator of the Bilbao IE Alumni Club. The conference was
attended by over 50 alumni from Bilbao and other bordering zones like San
Sebastián, Santander and Álava.
The session was also followed by a
cocktail where the alumni got an opportunity to network amongst each other.
El pasado 7 de abril, Marieta del
Rivero, Consejera Delegada de Nokia en España, impartió una conferencia a los
antiguos alumnos del Club de Bilbao.
Durante su conferencia, Marieta del
Rivero, una de las principales directivas del empresariado español, nos dio a
conocer los modos de hacer y gestionar de Nokia, aportándonos, en base a su
dilatada experiencia, una visión actual de las reglas del juego imperantes en
el sector de la telefonía móvil, y otras cuestiones relacionadas.
La sesión fue presentada por Jorge
García del Arco, Coordinador del Club de Antiguos Alumnos del IE en
Bilbao. Y fue un éxito en cuanto a la
participación ya que a la misma
asistieron más de 50 antiguos alumnos de Bilbao y de otras zonas limítrofes
como San Sebastián, Santander y Álava.
Tras la conferencia tuvo lugar un cocktail
donde los asistentes pudieron intercambiar impresiones en un ambiente muy distendido.
