The one-on-one speaker series, coordinated by the IE Alumni Association and IE Corporate Partners, celebrated its opening event on the 30th November, 2011 with José García Cantera, titled: Let’s not waste this crisis: lessons learned, opportunities and dangers.

The CEO of Banesto and MBA graduate (1990) was accompanied by the President of the Alumni Association and Managing Director of Kleinwort Benson, Fernando Barnuevo. The focus of the series, as explained by Fernando, is to invite innovative IE graduates to share their expertise on a particular topic and personal experiences with IE professors, alumni and students. The reunion took place in the Aula Magna, IE Business School, and was followed by an informal cocktail.

José was invited to speak about the European debt crisis, from the viewpoint of a large Spanish bank. He touched upon the actual situation in Spain, the actions required to prevent escalation and how to regain trust between banks and in the sustainability of the Euro. Following his opening speech, guests were invited to ask questions and owing to José´s generosity and the amount of interest generated the event ran longer than anticipated.

Fernando concluded the reunion by thanking José for his time and outspokenness, which was reiterated by all those involved. What´s more, Fernando stressed the importance of creativity and entrepreneurs in order to succeed today. Finally, he introduced the next one-on-one event, which will take place on the 11th January, 2012 with María Cordon, CEO of Grupo Hospitalario Quiron S.A. and MBA graduate (1994).

La nueva serie de conferencias One-on-One, organizada por la Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos del IE y IE Corporate Partners, celebró su inauguración el pasado 30 de noviembre 2011, con José García Cantera como primer invitado. El título del evento fue: No desaprovechemos esta crisis: lecciones aprendidas, oportunidades y peligros.

El CEO de Banesto y MBA (1990) por IE Business School estuvo acompañado por el Presidente de la Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos y Managing Director de Kleinwort Benson, Fernando Barnuevo, quien explicó que con esta nueva iniciativa se trata de invitar a los antiguos alumnos innovadores del IE a compartir sus conocimientos sobre un tema en particular y sus experiencias personales con los  profesores, antiguos alumnos ​​y estudiantes del IE. La reunión tuvo lugar en el Aula Magna del IE Business School, y fue seguido por un cóctel informal.

José habló sobre la crisis de la deuda europea, desde la perspectiva de un banco grande español. Habló acerca de la situación actual en España, las acciones necesarias para prevenir el empeoramiento de las circunstancias y la manera de recuperar la confianza entre los bancos y en la sostenibilidad del euro. Después de su discurso, los invitados fueron invitados a hacer preguntas y debido a la generosidad de José y la cantidad de interés que el tema generó, el evento duró más de lo previsto.

Fernando concluyó la reunión dando las gracias a José por su tiempo y sinceridad, la cual fue compartido por todos los asistentes. Es más, Fernando destacó la importancia de la creatividad y los emprendedores para tener éxito hoy en día. Por último, presentó el siguiente evento de One-on-One, que tendrá lugar el día 11 de enero 2012 con María Cordon, CEO de Grupo Hospitalario Quirón S.A. y MBA (1994).

US Career Drive: “Business & Visas in USA”

The Careers Management Centre organized an informative conference regarding “Business & Visas in USA” as part of the US Career Drive, in collaboration with Employee Mobility Solutions (EMS). The conference was held in the Aula Magna of IE with Norma Lorenzo, a lawyer and expert in US immigration and Danixa Montero, vice president of EMS, conducting the conference.

The speakers discussed in detail the types of visas (Immigrant and non-immigrant), the application processes for different nationalities and for different types of visas, the approximate time period for the processes and the important points to remember during the application.

The EMS team defined and explained the basic concepts of immigration to the US and emphasized on how the continuous changes in US immigration laws can slow and complicate the visa process in each country. They stressed on the importance of knowing the type of application, the steps and time frame for each, using the appropriate procedures.

Several students and alumni of different nationalities attended the conference and were able to get key information regarding visas for USA.  They were able to resolve most of the doubts regarding the possible processes to be able to work and develop a career in the US.
