Whirlwind tour including 17 networking meetings in 2.5 days

by Rachel Thomas, IMBA April 2013 intake
30th January 2014
In January, a group of 19 IMBA students and recent graduates traveled to London with the aim of finding out about careers in the city and to build their networks with firms in their target industries. The group set up meetings with senior executives and recruitment specialists, in addition to London-based alumni at a networking drinks event in collaboration with Sally Averill of the IE London office.
Most meetings were with firms in management consulting and financial services sector, in particular private equity, as well as others in the technology, consumer goods and media sectors.  They got insights into life as a management consultant from top-tier firms including McKinsey, BCG, Accenture and Deloitte; a peek in to the world of private equity by hearing from KKR, Investcorp and Cinven; an excellent strategic view on the potential of emerging markets from multinationals Unilever and Pearson; discussion of the beauty industry with Estée Lauder; and a lucky group of seven even got served lunch at the offices of Google.
The trip was rounded off with a drink or two and tapas at an excellent Hispanic bar with a bunch of approx. 30 UK-based IE alumni who gladly shared their stories and post-MBA experiences in a variety of sectors and disciplines.

Utterly exhausted, the group returned to Madrid with a much better understanding of the London job market and high hopes that the tentative recovery in the UK economy and the current demand for diverse workforce will be good news for IE job-hunters in the coming months.

Master Class: Burkas & Bikinis

Escrito el 11 julio 2011 por Alumni en Clubs & Activities, Geographic

The opportunity to participate in the development of a new case with Prof David Bach about the infamous Playboy brand ensured a fantastic turnout at the recently opened IE London office last month.  Around 40 alumni from many different years, intakes and masters participated in the evening debating issues regarding Playboy´s entry into the Indonesian market.  The case is under development and whilst it was interesting and fun for alumni, it was also a useful instrument for Prof Bach to test the case to ensure it is classroom-ready and gave him useful insights from experienced critics.  It was a really fun evening with much networking and interesting chats which continued long into the evening, in good IE tradition!
