On Thursday, March 5, the Emerging Markets Club and IE Net Impact welcomed Secretary General of the Secretariat General of Iberoamerica (SEGIB) and Former President of the Inter American Development Bank (IDB), Enrique V Iglesias, and Knowledge Economy Area Chief at the Inter American Development Bank, Danilo Piaggesi, for a talk on Knowledge Economy: New Challenges for Innovation, Knowledge, and Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The event was opened by IE Professor of Economic Environment and Director of External Relations, Gonzalo Garland, who then turned the stage over to Mr. Iglesias. Mr. Igesias framed the presentation with observations about the upcoming challenges as well as opportunities for Latin America in the face of the current economic crisis. Mr. Piaggesi then delivered a presentation on the knowledge economy in Latin America, discussing the urgent need to embrace and integrate local knowledge and know-how in today’s globalized economy. Mr. Iglesias and Mr. Piaggesi then took questions from the audience, which filled Serrano 105 to capacity.
